– Fully electric, Volvo’s Polestar 2 is a fully evolved sedan designed for economy and performance beyond expectations.

Minapim by Hernan Valenzuela: At the test track in Sweden, the Volvo engineer, who designed the chassis, is the program’s main test pilot, testing every inch of torque of the 78 kWh battery and two permanent magnet motors at each turn. , complementing 408 horsepower.

Its main tools are non-slip bars, springs and shock absorbers, ”says Polestar engineer and test pilot Joakim Rydholm. “If you throw your head on a bumpy road, you work with the anti-roll bars. Strong impacts, you work with the tires and shock absorbers.”

The test driver believes that when Polestar 2 arrives next year, it will be a serious competitor of Tesla Model 3. The prototype tested included the optional $ 6,600 “Performance Pack” with Brembo brakes, 20-inch alloy wheels and a set of manually adjusted Öhlins suspension dampers on each wheel to better balance the car at the corners. “It makes the car smoother without the driver losing confidence,” says Rydholm.

The car has been tested on the “comfort track”, which simulates a number of surfaces and road anomalies. “Their main tools are anti-roll bars, springs and shock absorbers,” says Rydholm. “If you hit your head on a bumpy road, you work with the anti-roll bars. Strong impacts, you work with the tires and shock absorbers.”

The test validated the dynamic engineering effort, with the car hitting the corners. The four-wheel drive configuration, using the front and rear engines, provided power immediately to accelerate out of the corner and into the next straight. On public roads, the car was smooth and quiet, with insignificant wind or tire noise – especially impressive in a vehicle without an engine that masks these sounds.

The base version will be $ 45,000, after it launches Launch Edition at $ 63,000, and will still go from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds. The car incorporates a water-cooled lithium-ion battery, developed with LG and capable of charging in just 35 minutes through a 150 kW charging station.

With its lightweight, eye-catching design inside and out, it complements with an industry highlight as the first car to feature Google’s Android-based information and entertainment system.

Using Google wirelessly, all vehicle systems and connectivity features – navigation, search, contacts – are accessed.

Polestar 2 is the brand’s first mass-produced EV, as well as Volvo’s – although the car’s powertrain is also heading for the recently announced XC40 Recharge SUV.

Also “other EVs feature a variety of features linked to their all-electric powertrain architecture. Audi’s E-Tron SUV floats with joy thanks to its precise four-wheel drive configuration. Tesla offers Ludicrous acceleration. . Porsche’s new Taycan accelerates more aggressively, thanks in part to technology as a two-speed transmission. But even at half the Taycan base price, Polestar 2 delivers near-Porsche driving quality. And it has a popular feature that Porsche doesn’t have: single-pedal operation. Engines will slow the vehicle both inertia and in the use of lighter pedals; mechanical brakes engage when force exceeds 0.3 g. On the track, where almost all braking is beyond that, the Brembos performed smooth and powerfully. On the road, the re-generation braking has been pronounced but discreet, a satisfying feeling for EV enthusiasts who like to pump energy back into the battery with every chance they get. ”

No tricks, Polestar 2 offers a fully developed EV designed to deliver more than enough reliability, economy and performance.

Those wishing to request or book a Polestar can complete the process through the Polestar application or website, from the comfort of their own home, at their own time, or under the guidance of a Polestar specialist in the Polestar chosen space.

“Polestar Space is our way to change the face of automotive retail,” says Jonathan Goodman, Polestar’s chief operating officer. “Without vendors and vehicles in the yard, there is no hard sell, no requirement to change inventory and a totally customer-focused journey. Consumers will define how they interact with exhibitions and Polestar experts by tailoring their experience to their exact needs, not those of the brand. Once you’ve found the perfect specification, continuous digital interactivity, inserts the vehicle in the customer application, ready to order when appropriate. Let’s put the fun back in buying a car! ”

Polestar is the jointly owned electric performance car brand of Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding. Polestar enjoys specific technology and engineering synergies with Volvo Cars and benefits from significant economies of scale as a result. This facilitates the successful design, development and production of separately branded electric performance cars.

Polestar was launched in 2017 with the Polestar 1 – a 600 hp, 1,000 Nm low-performance Electric Performance Hybrid GT and a 150 km electric-only range – the longest of any hybrid car in the world. In 2019, Polestar 2 was unveiled as the first high-volume premium electric car designed to compete with the Tesla Model 3. In the future, Polestar 3 will join the portfolio as a fully electric performance SUV.

Polestar also applies its technology and expertise to electrified Volvo cars. The new designed models of the Volvo S60, V60 and XC60 T8 Polestar feature the main Polestar components to create a clearer and more engaging driving experience. Polestar optimization software updates are also available for Volvo models, which enhance six performance areas, including engine production. Polestar Engineered media information can be found on the Volvo Cars media website.
