 – The Volkswagen Group and its partners have a real Herculean task: More than 122 factories of the group are to be connected to the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud. As an integration partner, Siemens ensures the efficient networking of production systems, machines and systems from different manufacturers.

Original Article by Industry of Things: The technology group Siemens becomes an integration partner of the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud. This was announced by boths companies. Siemens will make a significant contribution to efficiently networking machines and systems from different manufacturers in the 122 Volkswagen factories in the cloud. The data transparency and analytics made possible in this way form the technological prerequisites for further increases in productivity in Volkswagen’s plants.

Perspective: New features and services for the Industrial Cloud

In addition, Siemens and machine and plant suppliers are making applications and apps from the MindSphere Internet of Things available in the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud. In addition, Siemens and Volkswagen want to work together with machine and plant suppliers to develop new functions and services for the Industrial Cloud, which will then be available to all future Industrial Cloud partners.

“We will transform our Volkswagen Industrial Cloud into a network of partners whose data transparency and digital functions benefit all participating companies. With Siemens, we are gaining a strong partner with outstanding digitalization and industrial expertise, “says Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche and responsible for production on the Volkswagen AG Board of Management.

“We are pleased to help Volkswagen build its new Industrial Cloud with our open Mindo IoT platform. To do this, we will increase the networking of machines, production systems and equipment through MindSphere and our automation platforms. This allows Volkswagen, its suppliers and machine builders to make better use of the potential of production data. As a result, efficiency and flexibility in production and product quality can be further increased, “says Klaus Helmrich, Member of the Executive Board of Siemens AG.

Siemens contributes automation and IoT know-how

Siemens brings its in-depth expertise in automation, the networking of machines and systems and the industrial IoT world into cooperation. In addition to applications and apps from the MindSphere platform, this includes Industrial Edge solutions that process and analyze production data directly from end devices and machines or in production processes before aggregating into the Industrial Cloud. In this way, complex manufacturing processes can be optimized and the quality and quality of the data transferred to the Industrial Cloud improved.

Siemens and MindSphere partners will, among other things, integrate applications for the predictive maintenance of machines. These can then be transferred to all Volkswagen locations via the Industrial Cloud connection. At Volkswagen, this is expected to result in more efficient control of the production landscape and supply chain, as the associated suppliers and machine manufacturers also benefit from the data-based findings.

With the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud, which Volkswagen is building together with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the Volkswagen Group is laying the foundation for the end-to-end digitization of its production and logistics. In the long term, it will also involve the integration of Volkswagen’s global supply chain with more than 30,000 locations from more than 1,500 suppliers and partner companies. As a platform, the Industrial Cloud is also open to future prospects.
