How far is the research around Artificial Intelligence in Germany? An interactive map of the Learning Systems platform provides an overview.
Article Elektrotechnik by Katharina Juschkat : VDI recently accused Germany of losing contact with Artificial Intelligence. But there are already numerous AI projects in Germany. A map of the Learning Systems platform shows where research in Germany focuses on key areas of AI. In addition to research institutions, it also introduces new AI applications that have been developed or are already being used in Germany and institutions that are researching social issues around the development and use of Artificial Intelligence.
“Germany is well positioned in AI research”
In short, the KI map of the Learning Systems platform currently lists about 90 institutes and scientific institutions dealing with artificial intelligence across the country. In addition to the foundation, in 1988, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) has the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) based on its artificial intelligence strategy promoted new centers of excellence for AI research in Berlin, Munich, Dresden / Leipzig, Dortmund / Bonn and Tübingen, as well as numerous university institutes.
Karl-Heinz Streibich, co-chair of the Learning Systems Platform and President of Acatech (German Academy of Engineering Sciences), explains: “For many years Germany has been well positioned in international AI research. important to develop them in high-level international AI research and translate their results into concrete application areas of the economy. With our KI map, we make it clear who is researching which KI topics in Germany will create the basis for the transfer of technology. ”
Where in Germany AI applications are already being used
In addition to research institutes in IA, the Learning Systems platform uses its AI map to show which AI applications are already being used in Germany or are being tested in development projects. These range from robots for industrial production to the recognition of AI-based traffic signals in autonomous driving for intelligent health care systems. Currently, more than 500 applications can be filtered by industry and region, but also by field of application, underlying AI technology, and value-added activity. Companies, institutes and colleges that use or develop AI solutions register them for inclusion on the map.
